To reliably detect all bicycles, the RidePod BP uses paired piezoelectric sensors permanently embedded in the pavement.
Piezoelectric sensors detect axles by responding to the momentary changes in pavement stress as a bicycle rides over. With bicycles, however, these changes are very subtle. MetroCount has developed proprietary techniques and algorithms to detect and process these tiny signals, enabling the RidePod BP to consistently deliver high-quality data and achieve an unmatched accuracy in bicycle monitoring.

Like all MetroCount traffic survey systems, RidePod BP is an intelligent combination of robust electronic hardware and world-leading software. The MTE™ software is supplied with the counter, at no additional cost.
MTE™ examines the patterns of bicycle activity recorded by the unit and renders this information in a variety of formats. The algorithm is able to reject non-bicycle activity (e.g. pedestrians, motor vehicle traffic) and to distinguish individual bicycles in a cluster while correctly identifying groups of cyclists.
With two sensors installed in the cycleway, this system can produce much more information than simple bicycle counts.
MTE™ can display the analysed bicycle data in an almost endless variety of presentations and formats. These range from lists of individual bicycles to aggregated graphs showing long-term flow patterns. Data can be easily exported in a text, database or spreadsheet format.
