Traffex 2017 Innovation Trail

Traffex 2017 marked 20 years since MetroCount was first involved in the exhibition. To make this edition even more special for us, our new RidePod® BP counter was included in the event’s Innovation Trail. A world first, this Bike + People Counter was received with enthusiasm by traffic engineers and planners.

The Traffex Innovation Trail included carefully selected products that demonstrated innovation in addressing key traffic and transport issues.

Monitoring shared paths: the Bike + People counter

The RidePod BP system comprises one counter with two piezoelectric sensors, used to collect both bike and pedestrian data. While traditional methods employ two sensing technologies for obtaining similar statistics, the MetroCount engineers found a more efficient approach. Data collected from shared paths is post-processed in the MTE software where accurate bike information and reliable pedestrian volumes are extracted from a common dataset.

Remote Access Enclosure

With the release of our new generation of tube counters in late 2016, we made it possible to also access semi-permanent systems remotely. MetroCount proposes customised solutions for enclosing the additional hardware enabling this connection. Options range from a Pelican case to a permanent roadside cabinet however, these options aren’t most efficient for short-term traffic surveys.

To meet the demand for a more practical enclosure, we have developed a prototype box that piggybacks on the standard road case. This solution will enable traffic surveyors to move around the counter without compromising the system’s robustness. All while being able to check the tube’s integrity and download data without visiting the site.
