Belgian Road Congress: Bikes, Pedestrians and Smart Mobility

Congrès belge de la Route

Last week we returned to Brussels to attend the Belgian Road Congress, an event that takes place every four years. As usual, the programme has included sessions on all aspects of road infrastructure, attracting professional such as constructors, urban planners, road managers and research organisations. A handful of public and private related companies has been granted access to exhibit their products and we are really pleased to have had this opportunity.

The organisers have excelled in pushing an environmental and sustainable agenda; from encouraging exhibitors to build green stands to including presentations about ecological building materials and the latest initiatives in sustainable transport. From these sessions, our favorite was SMART MOBILITY – BIG DATA, coordinated by our friends at Brussels Mobility, which emphasised the importance of traffic data and discussed new metrics that should be considered for an in-depth analysis of road usage in urban areas.

MetroCount at the Belgian Road Congress

As interested in MetroCount traffic analysis is growing across Belgium, this conference was a great chance to catch up with current clients and meet future collaborators. After the independent study conducted by the Belgian Road Research Center in April 2016, our RidePod® BT counter has become very popular with the municipalities of Brussels. Now, it seems they are ready to take a step further, as our visitors wanted to know more about the RidePod® BP system. This bicycle-pedestrian counter, a prize winner at Traffex 2017, is an innovative, efficient and accurate way of collecting data on shared paths. Given the enthusiasm, we’re confident it will soon hit the Belgian streets.

A big thank you to everyone who visited our stand!
