Austrade Business Mission to India

DSC01776MetroCount delegates have returned from a successful trip to India with optimism for the future of transport reform in the region. With appalling road injury and fatality statistics, the Modi government has recognised the need for change and is working towards improving the desperate situation for road users. The chaos on the roads is evident at every junction. Throw into the mix the odd cow wandering across dimly lit streets and pedestrians preferring to walk on roads than side-walks and there is a recipe for disaster. The areas that need to be addressed are well documented but the drive to implement reform is a long time coming.

As part of the trip MetroCount attended the Australian Business Week In India, an intergovernmental discussion with dedicated sessions focused on the improvement of India’s transport systems. Delegates from MetroCount participated in round table discussions with officials from different levels of government to talk about the role of traffic data. While addressing road safety in the chaotic landscape can seem insurmountable, traffic data provides a valuable step towards directing traffic improvements to where they are needed and driving change.
