We recently spoke with Orkney Islands Council, in Scotland, who have benefitted from using ATLYST to store and analyse data. They explain how their experience using ATLYST has allowed them to easily understand the traffic data collected in the forms of graphs and tables. This has aided in the development plans of towns and villages on the islands, as well as producing valuable reports on road safety concerns.  

METROCOUNT: Can you detail how you use ATLYST and how your organisation has benefitted?

ANSWER: ATLYST is used to store data collected from temporary traffic surveys. ATLYST has allowed us to store and analyse data. The software produces simple and detailed reports, as required, that are easily understood.

METROCOUNT: What features do you find the most useful within ATLYST?

ANSWER: Easy access to reports, along with graphs and summaries that can be issued to elected members, community groups and the public.

METROCOUNT: What do you see as the primary function of ATLYST in your organisation?

ANSWER: The storage and analysis of data collected from temporary traffic count sites. The data collected is used to help produce reports relating to road safety concerns, speed limit reviews, school travel plans and development sites. The data is also used to help inform the production of Development Plans in our towns, villages, and settlements.

METROCOUNT: Which problems is ATLYST helping to solve in your organisation?

ANSWER: It produces simple reports that can be used to assist officers with speed related road safety enquiries. Providing easily understood data in the form of graphs and tables.

METROCOUNT: How did you find the onboarding process and how have your found the ATLYST support team?

ANSWER: we have had little need to contact the support staff, however, on the occasions we have the response has been very helpful.

METROCOUNT: Can you share any outcomes from using ATLYST and how that may have positively impacted decision making or planning within your organisation?

ANSWER: Data collected and analysed using ATLYST has been used to inform school travel plans, speed limit reviews, the introduction of new speed limits, assist the police in collision investigation, preparation of Local Development Plans, and various traffic management schemes.
