Why Monitor Cycling: City of Fremantle
Why monitor cycling? We thought we’d let one of our clients, the City of Fremantle, explain this one for us.
The City set itself the ambitious goal of becoming one of Australia’s most bike-friendly cities by 2018. Their target was to encourage a doubling of riders commuting to work to 5.8% of the total transport mode share.
To measure the success of the campaign, they installed 6 piezoelectric bike counters on coastal shared paths around the city.
These counters provided them with the data they needed to apply for extra government funding, to efficiently maintain existing cycle infrastructure and to plan for future upgrades.
