Our 6 Favourite Bikes from Velo-city
Velo-city 2017 in the Arnhem-Nijmegen region of the Netherlands included over 1,400 local and international participants in a celebration of cycling culture. We snapped pics of our 5 favourite bikes spotted in and around the show.
#1. A Classic Wooden Bike
The craftsmanship in this bike speaks for itself with some interesting engineering ideas. While the weight of wood might not lend itself to mountainous terrain, for the flat flood plains of the Netherlands, this is our pick of the litter!
#2. The Electric Cargo Bike
MetroCount’s CEO Mike Kenny replaced his car with an E-Bike, but not one as practical as this (might be time for an upgrade). Having a luggage rack on the front is a great way to keep an eye of your luggage while traversing the city streets.
#3. Sleek Fixie
When it comes to short city trips, the fixie is the ideal combination of low maintenance, efficiency and style! We loved the colours of this bike at the show.
#4. The Delivery Bike
Receiving a delivery via bike at Velo-city was very timely. It spoke volumes of the Dutch commitment to both cycling and the environment, just in case you missed the Tesla taxis and wind farms.
#5. The Bakfiets
This bike was a very cool take on the traditional Dutch Bakfiets. With a matte black finish and fat tyres, it has a very sleek look!
#6 The Reverse Penny-Farthing
We weren’t sure what to call this strange creation. Not necessarily the most practical two-wheeled device, its appeal is the ability to turn heads!
