Talking Bicycle and Pedestrian Data at ITE Toronto
We spent the last 4 days in Toronto, attending the ITE 2017 Annual Meeting and Exhibit. The theme of this event was Transportation for All: Putting New Ideas into Practice with sessions covering topics such as Smart Cities, Protected Bikeways, Autonomous Vehicles, Public Transport. Special attention was dedicated to road safety, with numerous sessions discussing benefits, tools, and progress of ‘Vision Zero‘ campaigns. Amongst the latest urban planning strategies and technical innovations, the organizers announced the launch of the ITE Talks Transportation monthly podcast.
MetroCount @ ITE Toronto
Since ITE events attract very technical visitors, our booth was busy with people examining the technology behind the latest RidePod BP. This bike and pedestrian monitoring system, unique to MetroCount, received the Innovation Award at Traffex earlier this year. The RidePod BP uses the same two piezoelectric sensors to record both bicycles and pedestrians on shared paths. As this type of infrastructure is spreading across North America, this counter is becoming the device of choice for sustainable transport planners.
